POLICY STATEMENT OF INTENT.

Stourbridge Institute Social Club are committed to providing a safe and secure working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors, and stakeholders. The club has continuously evolved to incorporate Stourbridge Institute Social Club health and safety best practices, aligning with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Our mission is to ensure that every individual within our premises or affected by our operations is safeguarded from workplace hazards, and that all legal obligations concerning health and safety are met.

The organisation prioritises a proactive safety culture, emphasising continuous improvement, employee engagement, and leadership accountability. By integrating risk management and prevention strategies into daily operations, Stourbridge Institute Social Club  strives to foster an environment where safety is a core value rather than just a regulatory requirement.

Our health and safety policy extends beyond mere compliance, aiming for excellence in all aspects of workplace safety. Through structured training, clear communication, and consistent monitoring, we ensure that health and safety remain a fundamental part of our organizational ethos.

Commitment to Health and Safety

  • Stourbridge Institute Social Club is committed to achieving the highest standards of health, safety, and welfare across all its operations. Our objective is to create and maintain a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and visitors by identifying and mitigating workplace risks.

We pledge to:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and other applicable standards.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, regularly reviewing policies, procedures, and control measures to reduce workplace hazards.
  • Integrate health and safety management into all levels of club operations, fostering a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
  • Provide adequate training, instruction, and supervision to enable all personnel to work safely and competently.
  • Maintain safe workplaces, equipment, and systems of work to prevent injuries and illness.
  • Encourage open communication, empowering employees to report hazards, unsafe practices, and near misses without fear of retaliation.

Members – Responsibilities and Conduct.

The Club is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all members, guests, staff, and visitors. To maintain high safety standards and ensure the smooth running of the Club, all members are expected to follow the rules, guidance, and health and safety procedures in place.

Members Responsibilities.

Members must:

  • Treat all staff, volunteers, guests, and fellow members with respect and courtesy at all times.
  • Follow all Club rules, signage, and instructions given by staff or committee members.
  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions.
  • Use all Club facilities, equipment, and furniture only for their intended purpose and with care.
  • Report any hazards, damage, unsafe conditions, or accidents to staff or the committee immediately.
  • Comply with any restricted access areas, safety barriers, or “staff only” notices.
  • Avoid bringing dangerous items, illegal substances, or weapons onto Club premises.
  • Keep personal belongings in a safe location and not obstruct walkways, exits, or playing areas (e.g., snooker hall, dance floor).
  • Follow responsible behaviour when consuming alcohol, in line with the Club’s Serving Alcohol policy, and never act in a manner that causes disturbance, nuisance, or risk to others.
  • Supervise children at all times and ensure they do not enter restricted areas or misuse equipment.
  • Comply with all fire safety rules, including evacuation procedures, and never tamper with fire safety equipment.

Unacceptable Behaviour.

The following behaviour will not be tolerated on Club premises:

  • Aggressive, abusive, or discriminatory language or conduct.
  • Deliberate damage to Club property or facilities.
  • Ignoring health and safety instructions from staff or committee members.
  • Actions that put themselves or others at risk.
  • Bringing the Club into disrepute through misconduct.

Consequences of Non-Compliances

Failure to adhere to these responsibilities may result in:

  • Verbal or written warnings.
  • Temporary suspension of membership.
  • Permanent termination of membership (subject to committee decision).
  • Reporting to relevant authorities where breaches of law occur.
